Rocky Mountain Bad Boyz promotion had their MMA Madness at the Island Grove Event Center in Greeley last night. I gotta tell you right off, if you haven’t been to a RMBB show yet, you gotta go check one out.
The shows are mainly amateur fights with a couple to a few pro fights thrown in the main event slots. Don’t let that deter you though. These guys and gals are looking to move up the ranks and ALL of them bring it at these shows.
Most shows have “belt” matches. In fact, there were belt matches in the 135, 145, 155, and 185 weight classes. Yeah, that’s right. Not only are these guys fighting for belts, they are the fast, exciting, lighter weight fighters.
Dont worry, there are still fights for you Heavy lovers too. They had a 265-pound fight that surprised me. These guys came out and went at it like you don’t get to see in the HW divisions much.
The night started off with two female fights. Both barn burners. Neither going the distance. Yeah, I’m a fan of the female fights, but I’m telling you, these were good fights.
The rest of the night belonged to the guys – only a couple decisions and all of these hard-fought battles. You didn’t see any resting in these fights. The others were stopped by TKO or submission. Nothing but action all night!
The last two fights of the night were “Pro” fights. Again, both exciting, hard-fought battles. There would have been a third fight, but there was a no-show. Oh, and the guy that did show came in from Vegas from a little gym ran buy some guy with the nick name “The Axe Murderer”. That’s right, Wanderlei Silva’s fight team. It makes you wonder why the guy didn’t show last night. I believe that fighter is scheduled to make it back out for an upcoming show.
The venue was out in Greeley, but the shows take place at Red and Jerry’s and out at the Castle Rock event center as well. So, you can catch one pretty close to you wherever you are. I would imagine RMBB will need to start looking for bigger venues soon as the shows are growing. Understandably so, RMBB takes a unique approach to their shows. Whether it be in the way of t-shirts thrown into the crowd, a raffle (last night was a 42″ LCD) or the extra entertainment provided (local singers), this show brought all of the above. There are plenty of extras at these shows, and it makes for a fun night out.
The highlights and low-lights…
The highlights were definitely the fights. All great fights. No snoozers here at all. There is a reason the fight scene in Colorado is growing and these up and comers have it on display. Be sure to hear what a couple of guys I ran into at the show had to say below.
The lows…I’m gonna have to go with the boxing commission judge bailing on the interview he agreed to do with me after the show. He just got up and left. Maybe he thought I was going to ask for a Couture/Toney prediction?
